Determining the value of your Colt.45 Auto:You should use (recommend 'must use') the book entitled,'Shooter's Bible'; it has been in publication for over 80 years andis used as a reference by nearly all gun stores and gun shows/guncollectors. This is the 'Blue Book' for firearms in the US.Anyone who gives you information on the computer or in person, either received their info from the Shooter's Bible, or are goingon what they heard (hearsay). Translation: Read the Shooter's Bibleyourself and don't go by what you read on the computer or heardfrom someone.General Discussion:The US Army.45 semi-automatic Colt pistol Model 1911(A1) wasadopted by the USA in 1911; and issued to USA MP, Armor Crewmen(Tank Crewmen), Helicopter Crewmen, and Machinegunners up to anduntil the end of the Vietnam War (1975). The sidearm was alsoissued to USN & USMC personnel. In Vietnam, 'most' USN, USAF,and probably USMC airmen preferred to carry a snub nosed.38revolver, as they were lighter. The USAF did issue.38's inVietnam. USN/USMC/USA airmen may have gotten ahold of revolversthru trading.

GI's in Vietnam 'were told' that their.45 pistolswere WWII forty-fives; and that no more were made 'after WWII'(1945), consequently the ones being used in Vietnam were simplyrepaired/modified/improved/maintained old WWII pistols. Rumorcontrol said that about 7 million Government (Military).45's weremade during the 20th century (probably from 1911 to 1945). Neversaw a forty-five marked with 'Army Air Corp' on it; that does notsound like military procedure(s). Although USAF.38's may have had'Aircrewmen' US Air Force imprinted on them during the VietWar.
