That's nice. Now what?Seriously, I don't know what people should be expecting here. Why is this one not going to get crushed like an ant like the last version did?

Why is this one going to escape unscathed from the mob of angry lawyers when the last one didn't? What in the world makes anyone think this version is going to get off the ground when the last one had it's wings clipped before it got anywhere near take-off?You're setting yourself up for disappointment if you expect Hasbro to let this go.

What in the world makes anyone think this version is going to get off the ground when the last one had it's wings clipped before it got anywhere near take-off?You're setting yourself up for disappointment if you expect Hasbro to let this go.From what I understand, this is a heavily modified version of a beta build that was released to the public prior to the C&D, essentially making this an unofficial 'finished' version.

As such, the cat's pretty much out of the bag. There really isn't much Hasbro can do at this point except try to shut down the links and maybe go after the uploader. Even if they try, they won't succeed taking it off the internet completely, not as long as people torrent the file.I suspected something like this would happen.

The game gained a rabid following during development, and the reaction to its cancellation was one of the biggest shitstorms I've ever seen in the brony fandom (and after witnessing dramas like Twilicorn and Equestria Girls, that says a lot). I couldn't get excited about it though, as I'm absolutely terrible at fighting games. Yay?Even as a fan of the show, this project has lost my interest.

The C&D was the best thing to happen to the Mane6 developers as it allowed them access to a far better project. To see this revived is not only going to create drama within the community, it is going to create more hassle to a now very official developer(Mane6).I find the name quite odd,'Tribute Edition?' Its not a tribute to Hasbro as they are going to look for legal ramifications. Not a tribute to Mane 6 as they whoever modded this stole their assets and put them under legal risk. Not a tribute to bronies as it would of been better off to make something original instead of reviving this.Should of just been honest and called 'The Piracy Edition' and call it a day. Hasbro got to keep their legal rights to the property, the actual makers of the game got to stay out of trouble, and everybody gets to play it.Maybe I'm just naive, but I'm failing to see who loses in this instance? The problem comes with the fact that 90% of Mane6 assets are being used here which Hasbro has layed a C&D on. While this won't affect the consumers in anyway, Mane6 is now going to have to prove to Hasbro that they had no involvement with it. It may not seem like much but now that they are an official developer instead of a fan group, they are much easier to take legal action against.

I would hate to see resources being used to have to to deal with this than towards their much better new project. Even as a fan of the show, this project has lost my interest. The C&D was the best thing to happen to the Mane6 developers as it allowed them access to a far better project. So far, Mane6 has only produced one game. Even if there would be some chance that their next one could be 'far better' without playing it first, it's morally nullified by the fact that it was brought on by censorship.I find the name quite odd,'Tribute Edition?' I've never really been one for fighters. Although I wish them luck, it's sure to bring joy to many.Until the boot meets the ant once moreWith the boot being The piratebay, and the ant being Hasbro?Whatever theoretical authorities they might have, the IP industry utterly lacks the real life ability to remove data from the internet.Last time they succeeded in interrupting the work of the creators mid-development, and thus force them not to finish the game, which is unfortunately still in their ability.

I couldn't get excited about it though, as I'm absolutely terrible at fighting games.Well I hope it was worth it to the people who did it. Contrary to popular belief, you are never truly anonymous online and if Hasbro is willing to spend the time and money to figure it out (which Hasbro feels very Disney-like to me and will be very willing to), they're going to get themselves absolutely crushed. Just so that their little fan game can make a small cult following on pirate and torrent sites for the couple hundred people who really like MLP and really like fighting games and don't worry about downloading random things off the internet. And that's all assuming it's actually any good.Hope it was worth it.

At the very least they have demonstrated that creative work can circumvent C&D takedowns and still be released to the public, putting another nail in IP monopoly's coffin.Except they really haven't. Hasbro is going to get this thing crushed from ever appearing on anything legitimate and if they so chose, they will absolutely destroy those who were involved with this.

Unless Hasbro chooses to ignore this completely (which they won't), this is the equivalent of writing in a bathroom stall; no one notices and no one really cares. If it's really really really good, it might pick up a cult following of the handful of people who love MLP, love fighting games, and don't care that they have to go to the bathroom stall of the internet to see it but in the grand scheme of things, this is a drop of a drop of a drop in a bucket. Unless Hasbro chooses to ignore this completely (which they won't), this is the equivalent of writing in a bathroom stall; no one notices and no one really cares.Compared to what? Going along with the analogy, the entire issue of C&Ds and copyright monopolies, is an issue about who is allowed to write on bathroom stall, so compared to that, yeah, it's a big victory that publishers are not capable of stopping people from writing at bathroom stalls, only punishing them retroactively at best.

(and even that is dubious, what are Hasbro's options there, send out another C&D and make the fans take it down from their own website?). Well, there really is nothing Hasbro can do about it now.I mean, hundreds of thousands of people would've downloaded it already.Sure, they can shut down the download links, but then other people will just re-upload it and start the whole thing again. So, yeah. Nothing they really can do.Sure, it puts Mane6 at some risk, but it was said that this is a modified build from the beta, which was before the C&D was ordered. So, there's nothing they can do about it AND if Mane6 get attacked FOR this random person who polished/released this version then that's a bit harsh. But yeah, I am currently downloading it.

And it will probably hide on my HDD for a while in with all the episodes of the show. It'll live on in my computer even if it does get taken down. Didn't the original dev make an original game with the skullgirls engine and a voice actor of mlp or something? What happened with that anyway? You are right that Mane6 has received the license to the Skullgirls Engine thanks to a kind(depending on how you look at it) donation of Lab Zero Games. Who you are mistaken for a voice actor though is actually Lauren Faust who was Producer/Designer for MLP 4th gen. It's hard too say how involved she is with Mane6's new project but I know for fact that she is designing the characters/world for it.Edit:Well looks like they have taken incentive to snip it in the bud(with the public), I wouldn't be surprised if they will spend the next couple of days talking with Hasbro lawyers. I think they will be fine but dealing with crap like this at anytime sucks.

And that's all assuming it's actually any good.Hope it was worth it.This is almost the opposite of true, while Hasbro certainly sends out C&D's and protects its IP, it isn't even close to the level that Disney it at, not just in intention, but in physical resources as well.

Hasbro lets episodes of its HUB channel shows exist on Youtube for weeks at a time, and even after that only makes a small token effort to take any down, and only really even does it with MLP (the rest of the channels shows remain pretty much untouched).Hasbro has also made zero effort to eliminate things that directly compete with their toy lines, unless the makers are obviously and visibly making a significant profit on it. E-bay is swarmed with fan made toys for sale, and in the multiple years they have been, Hasbro has only dished out C&Ds to the ones that were selling in high quantities for large sums of money (hundreds to thousands of dollars. The custom figurine market is one that Hasbro actively encourages, and has even showcased some of the better custom fan figurines, they even allow them to be sold, and only really lay the smackdown if someone tries to open a store and sell these things in bulk. There was another site that sold 3d printed figurines for awhile, made to order.

We're talking toys here, pretty much the clearest IP violation imaginable considering that it was in direct competition with Hasbro itself. The only thing Hasbro did was send a C&D, and they still allowed the site to ship its final orders to customers without challenge or repercussion.Hell, they allowed this game to run in the public eye for almost 2 years, the takedown only came when the game was entered into potentially featuring in an international fighting game tournament, and would have likely made money and significant media attention. Even Hasbro's lawyers have stated that they really only go after projects that make money, or are organized enough to potentially be confused for official Hasbro products and merchandise. So no, Hasbro is nothing like Disney, who have sicked their lawyers on Day cares with disney characters painted on their wall, and have one of the most comprehensive Youtube takedown systems of any large company out there. Hell, even amongst toy companies, Mattel has a more draconian track record as far as C&Ds and legal action goes (they are really protective of anything Barbie related). Hasbro has actually gotten media attention for how laid-back and laissez-faire their IP protection is, they are one of the more permissive large media companies out there, and they let their fans (not just bronies) get away with a lot more shit than most other large media companies.

Yes, they still smack down stuff that gets too popular, or looks like its going to make money on their IP, but they aren't even in the same galaxy as Disney's almost paranoid Big Brother style protection of its intellectual properties. This is almost the opposite of true, while Hasbro certainly sends out C&D's and protects its IP, it isn't even close to the level that Disney it at, not just in intention, but in physical resources as well. But corporations are always evil! And it's not like failing to protect its copyrights ever hurt Hasbro! Y'know, except for how it couldn't even use most of the previous-generation characters in FiM because it hadn't protected its copyrights.

(and even that is dubious, what are Hasbro's options there, send out another C&D and make the fans take it down from their own website?)If they so choose, they could absolutely demolish someone's financial life (and destroy their company if it's a company that has done it) by suing for damages to the name. Usually they'd shut down the site in question like the first time but since these people went for forgiveness rather than permission, Hasbro would be well within it's rights to sue the people responsible into oblivion for this. However. This is almost the opposite of true, while Hasbro certainly sends out C&D's and protects its IP, it isn't even close to the level that Disney it at, not just in intention, but in physical resources as well. I assumed that Hasbro fought all cases with that kind of ferocity and we just didn't hear about it; if that's not the case, this group may not be crushed as I would expect from most companies. Since the cat is out, they may just let it go if what you're saying is correct, which would kind of be a win for everyone. Remarkable stupid of whomever did it. Hasbro WILL get a C&D on the game, as they've shown already, and all it will do is fracture the brony fandom more than it already is. That said, the game itself looks like a modified Mugen engine with the Mane 6 fighting (Why? Why not?) which I could see as a big reason Hasbro ordered the C&D in the first place. What's Hasbro gonna do? The game is 'finished' so to speak, so nothing to 'cease and desist' since the game has been upload for free download to least one torrent site, as of yesterday when I found out about it, and like many more by now. They can't yell at Mane 6 for this, cause it wasn't them that 'finished it'(they're working on a new game with the same theme with the Skull Girls engine).

Can't really yell at the people that did finish by slapping them with a C&D cause it's 'finished' and up for download. Best they can do is try to take down the download links for it, but I doubt they'll make any real effort at that.big ol' snip.Thank you. Whenever Fighting is Magic gets brought up, there are so many people who immediately jump on the Hasbro hate-train, just because they're a big company protecting their IP.As a fan of both MLP and Transformers, I can vouch for how cool they generally are with fan-projects and the like. It's like you said: The thing that really killed Fighting is Magic the first time was it's own popularity. Hasbro really HAD to take action at that point.Hasbro generally does everything it can to please its fanbases. In my experience, they only do things that result in negative publicity if they absolutely have to. Call me a Hasbro fanboy if you must, but really, the guys at Hasbro just seem like generally cool dudes.OT: Yay, FiM is back.

Glad to see it's back in some form or another. And the best part is that since it's been put up like this, there's very little chance that Hasbro will be forced to take action against it.
